With the Lunar Year of the Rabbit upon us, here is how you can work with the energy of this new year.
1.) ACKNOWLEDGE THE ABUNDANCE YOU ALREADY HAVE & ARE:
If you can read this, you already are leading a life of great abundance as you can likely see with your eyes and/or you have a technological device at your fingertips with which you engage in the dominant paradigm. Congratulations! You are abundant!
Look around you, right now and count your blessings. Literally, if you have to write them all down in order to prove to yourself just how abundant you are then do it. Here’s my list:
~ I have a warm kitchen filled with food and the tools I need to prepare healthy, yummy meals for my son and I.
~ My son and I are robust in health — physically, emotionally and mentally.
~ After the loss of his father to cancer three years ago, my son’s world is once again filled with a supportive educational environment; an after school activity; neighbors to play with; art supplies; chores; dogs; and more.
~ After two years of struggling to find our sense of ground, we have had a cabin to call our own (for now) in the mountains of southern Mexico.
Your turn. Go ahead — see & count your blessings, right now.
2.) EXPRESS GRATITUDE FOR EVERYTHING YOU ALREADY HAVE & ARE:
Now, give thanks for all of it.
Every morning, I awake before dawn to light candles and incense, drink hot lemon water with Himalayan salt and sit in the dark. The silence of early morning gives me ample space to just be with myself. I look out the glass windows of two sliding doors in my studio and feel many things — it depends on the day, really.
Sometimes, I feel inspired. Other times, I feel quiet. Either way, I feel grateful that I get to have this time. Sometimes, I meditate. Most of the time, I stretch, breathe and do yoga postures. Other times, I put on music — I have an early “Morning Routine” musical playlist that gently moves me from slow into steady and then ready to face another day. Most of the time though, I sit cross legged, lay my hands over my heart, bow my head and silently say, over and over and over within myself, “Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.“ I am thanking the Universe, myself, this planet, my ancestors, all that has come before and all that is to come, for the very fact that I get to be here, right now. This is it. This is the nature of abundance — that I am/we are here right now in human form and that we get to do this. Be alive; experience life; and attempt to be grateful for all of it.
If you’re not a morning person, then just carve out 5 minutes to do this before bed or in the middle of the night when you like to have your alone time. It works wonders in your life, I promise!
This part is easy for me. What’s harder is when I fall into negative talk, an unattractive attitude or when I treat others unkindly. Case in point is how I can behave with our dogs. Sometimes, I can call them unkind names (like “pig” with how they scarf down their food, and “stupid dog” when they run into the street in front of oncoming traffic) and I can also be quick to frustration with how they can behave like the scoundrels they are. Sometimes, I pick them up and throw them. It’s not pretty, I admit. : (
When I behave like this then I am taking my blessings for granted. These dogs bring ample joy to the life of my son which, in turn, brings greater ease to my life. I want to embrace our blessings — not push them away — because this is another way that I embody gratitude. And by embodying gratitude, I am demonstrating that we are ready for even more blessings in our life. (Such as a larger space that we share with others and where we take care of even more animals, like goats, chickens, horses, cows, etc.)
3.) IF YOU FEEL SOMETHING IS LACKING IN YOUR LIFE, THEN VISUALIZE YOURSELF LIVING AS IF YOU ALREADY HAVE IT.
Ideally, these aren’t things though. True abundance is located through our DEEP CONNECTION — with ourselves, each other and our planet. When we have this, then we don’t need more “things.”
